Bhutan Adventure

Tshechu inThimphu.
A tshechu is a religious festival.

Bhutan!!! I can hardly believe I will be traveling there in less than a week.  A dream come true!!  Though I am going on a great adventure, we are all on great adventures and I want to hear from you as well!!!
I will be living mainly in the capital city of Thimphu, where there are about 40,000 people.  I hope to teach in a music school,  work for the Music of Bhutan Research Center, and host a weekly classical radio show.  We will see what awaits me.

Bhutan is a small Buddhist country in the eastern Himalayas located just below Tibet, between China and northeastern India.  A wildly beautiful, rural and isolated nation that has never been colonized, Bhutan is known internationally for its self-protective controls on tourism, its official policy of pursuing the highest possible level of  “Gross National Happiness” for all its citizens,  and its current peaceful transition to a democratic system, initiated by the visionary, well-loved monarch himself.  Bhutan is now modernizing but is doing so with care and planning, attempting to maintain its rich, natural and cultural heritage.

This is the beautiful Thimphu Valley where
I will be staying from Oct. 1 to Jan 15.
